Jan Hendrik was born in a small town in the Northern parts of South Africa. He worked as a cook at their family resort from the age of 15 when after he apprenticed in Sandton, Johannesburg. He started his training at the City & Guilds international culinary school where he found his specialty in the fine art of Patisserie. Apprenticing at 5 star hotels in and around Cape Town, South Africa he furthered his studies by doing a Degree in Applied design. Joining the international magazine ELLE as contributing food editor in 2006 the Horizons took Jan Hendrik to Paris, where he worked at the Head office of ELLE magazine. He then moved to the North of France – Champagne where he was Executive chef for the Champagne house PIAFF. 2 Years on-board a luxury vessel in Monaco as Head chef, Jan Hendrik pursued his dream of opening his own restaurant. His first cookbook “The French Affair, Tables of love” has been published by Random House Struik, with his second book JAN, a breath of French air to be published early 2016.
